Meta has broken ground on a new AI-optimised data centre in Tulsa, Oklahoma, its 32nd facility worldwide and 28th in the United States, as the Facebook owner continues the most aggressive infrastructure expansion in its history.
The Tulsa campus, which will represent an investment of more than $1 billion, is the tenth site where Meta has started construction in the past 24 months, a pace that underscores how rapidly the company is scaling capacity to support its AI ambitions.
Meta now operates or is building roughly 30 data centres globally, spanning more than 50 million square feet, with planned capital expenditure of $115 billion to $135 billion this year alone.
Chief executive Mark Zuckerberg has committed more than $600 billion in US investment by 2028, a figure he reportedly shared directly with President Trump.
The largest project in Meta's pipeline is the Hyperion Data Center Campus in Richland Parish, Louisiana, a $10 billion facility designed to deliver more than two gigawatts of compute capacity by 2030, with the potential to scale to five gigawatts.
The site already has more than 3,700 construction workers active, and Meta expanded the project in February by acquiring an additional 1,400 acres of adjacent land, bringing the total footprint to roughly four times the size of Manhattan's Central Park.
Meta is financing the Hyperion campus through a $27 billion joint venture with Blue Owl Capital, one of the largest private infrastructure deals ever completed.
Other major sites under construction include campuses in Lebanon, Indiana and Montgomery, Alabama, as well as an AI-optimised facility in El Paso, Texas, where Meta increased its spending commitment sixfold to $10 billion in March, targeting one gigawatt of capacity by 2028.
The Tulsa facility will employ approximately 1,000 construction workers at peak and support around 100 permanent operational jobs once completed, with Meta investing more than $25 million in local road and water infrastructure improvements.

The buildout is being driven by the compute demands of Meta's Llama family of open-source AI models, its recommendation systems powering Facebook Reels and Instagram, and the company's push into agentic AI.
Meta's custom MTIA v3 chip, codenamed Iris, entered broad deployment across the fleet in early 2026, complementing the company's recent deal to deploy tens of millions of AWS Graviton cores for CPU-intensive agentic workloads.
