Yahoo launches Scout AI answer engine across search and apps
New tool draws on open web, Yahoo data and partners Anthropic and Microsoft
Yahoo has launched Yahoo Scout, an artificial intelligence answer engine designed to generate concise responses by synthesising information from the open web, Yahoo data and Yahoo-owned content across desktop and mobile.
The company said Scout is shaped by its data assets and user insights, drawing on 500 million user profiles, a knowledge graph covering more than one billion entities and about 18 trillion consumer events a year, while reaching 90% of US internet users each month.
Yahoo said it has partnered with Anthropic and Microsoft to expand Scout’s capabilities.
“When you’re serving hundreds of millions of users, you need AI that can do more than retrieve information, it has to reason, synthesize, and explain,” said Ami Vora, head of product at Anthropic.
“Yahoo is building toward a more personalized, trustworthy kind of search, and Claude’s ability to deliver that quality of guidance at scale is at the heart of Yahoo Scout.”
Yahoo also introduced the Yahoo Scout Intelligence Platform, which will bring Scout features into products including Mail, News, Finance and Sports.
The company said the platform will power tools such as Yahoo Shopping research, Analysis by Yahoo Scout in Finance with headlines refreshed every ten minutes, interactive “More from Yahoo Scout” research within articles and comment summaries on the Yahoo homepage.
