Microsoft's ID@Xbox Developer Acceleration Program (DAP) has spotlighted games from studios across the African diaspora, profiling partners in South Africa, Brazil, France and several US cities as part of Black History Month.
James Lewis, director of the programme, framed the showcase in the context of a longer history, pointing to Gerald Lawson, the engineer credited with designing the Fairchild Channel F console and pioneering the first video game cartridges.
Two titles are available now: Nyamakop's Relooted, from South Africa, and Aerial_Knight's DropShot, from Detroit, both accessible through Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Play Anywhere.
Several more are in development or awaiting release. NuChallenger's Beatdown City Survivors, from Chicago, and Bee Bridges Interactive's Blind Frontiers, from Paris, are listed as coming soon, as is Sue The Real Studios' One Beat Min from São Paulo and The MIX Games and Ritual Games' Hit-Em-Up Highrise.
Konsole Kingz's Black Spades, based in Austin, is joining the Xbox Insider Program ahead of a planned summer launch, while Strange Scaffold's Space Warlord Baby Trading Simulator, from El Paso, is currently on Steam and planned for Xbox Play Anywhere.
