WhatsApp is rolling out several new features to simplify chat storage, let users keep two accounts on one iPhone, and move chat history between iOS and Android, the company said in an announcement.

The updates are designed to help users manage growing volumes of messages, photos and videos and to separate work and personal conversations without carrying two devices.

Key changes include a Manage Storage option inside any chat to find and delete large files, and the ability to clear only media files while keeping chat history intact. Chat transfer now supports moving conversation history from iOS to Android as well as transfers within the same platform. WhatsApp is also enabling two accounts to be logged in simultaneously on iOS, with the active profile picture visible in the bottom tab.

WhatsApp is adding content and convenience features too. Stickers are suggested as users type emojis. Meta's artificial intelligence (AI) features let people touch up photos in-chat—removing distractions, swapping backgrounds or applying styles—and the Writing Help feature "can now draft a suggested response based on your conversation, so you can get your message just right — all while keeping your chats completely private," the company said in an announcement. "We hope they make your WhatsApp even simpler to use," the company said in an announcement.

The recap

  • WhatsApp adds tools for storage, transfers, dual accounts and AI.
  • Chat transfer now supports moving history from iOS to Android.
  • The company says features are rolling out now to users.
