Waze is introducing a SpongeBob SquarePants navigation experience in its app to mark the upcoming theatrical release of “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants” on December 19, the company said in a statement.

The feature is designed to bring themed guidance and visuals to users’ daily drives, turning regular commutes into a SpongeBob-inspired experience.

According to the company, “the world’s favorite sponge is jumping in as a navigator for an open-road adventure,” offering “nautical charm, quick wit, and bursts of positivity” with each turn and exit. Waze said SpongeBob’s commentary aims to “transform even the most routine commute into something unexpectedly entertaining,” with “no wrong turns – just new ways to explore.”

Users can select the “Brave” mood to change how they appear on the Waze map and choose the custom “Patty Blaster” vehicle for their in-app car. The SpongeBob banner is available globally in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese in the app’s left-side column menu for users who download the latest version of Waze or activate the experience directly.

The recap

  • Waze launches SpongeBob SquarePants navigation experience tied to new movie.
  • Users can pick “Brave” mood and custom “Patty Blaster” vehicle.
  • SpongeBob banner available globally in four languages in latest Waze app.
