Titanic door banks fortune at movie prop auction

The door movie prop from the end of Titanic has been sold at auction for $718,000.
Heritage Auctions sold the Titanic prop alongside other famous movie artefacts - including another Titanic piece, Kate Winslet's chiffon dress (sold for $125,000) as well as Indiana Jones's bullwhip from "The Temple of Doom" (sold for $525,000) and Jack Nicholson's axe from "The Shining" (sold for $125,000).
The Titanic door has been a point of fixation for fans ever since the movie's release in 1997 with fans fiercely debating over the years whether both Jack and Rose could've fit on it, thus it would've saved the life of DiCaprio's character.
Such was the hysteria in the 90s, director James Cameron had said tests with a hypothermia expert and stunt people confirmed that only one could have survived on the door in the icy waters, aligning with the film's tragic ending.

Media reports may reflect a romanticized portrayal of the auction, emphasizing the high sale price of the "Titanic" door prop and other memorabilia.
The emphasis on the auction's success and the value of specific items could mislead fans over the potential value of film memorabilia.
