The Muppet Show returns 4 February as a special event on Disney+ and ABC.
The Muppet Show returns 4 February as a special event on Disney+ and ABC, bringing the original Muppet Theatre back to screens.
The company said in a statement that a first-look teaser was released and described the special as a new episode featuring Kermit, Miss Piggy and the Muppet ensemble with guest Sabrina Carpenter.
The special is produced by 20th Television, Disney Branded Television, The Muppets Studio and Point Grey Pictures and is directed by Alex Timbers, who also serves as an executive producer. Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver and Alex McAtee are listed as executive producers for Point Grey Pictures; David Lightbody, Leigh Slaughter and Michael Steinbach are executive producers for The Muppets Studio; Sabrina Carpenter, Albertina Rizzo, Matt Vogel and Eric Jacobson are also credited as executive producers.
Veteran performers Bill Barretta, Dave Goelz, Eric Jacobson, Peter Linz, David Rudman and Matt Vogel will perform the majority of the characters. The company noted that Dave Goelz has worked with The Muppets for over 50 years and originated characters including Gonzo and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew. The original series, created by Jim Henson, ran from 1976 through 1981, aired in more than 100 countries and earned Emmy, GRAMMY, Peabody and BAFTA awards; all five seasons are currently available to stream on Disney+.
In 2026 The Muppet Show will celebrate its 50th anniversary, the company added.
