Tether open-sources Bitcoin mining software to boost sector transparency
Stablecoin company launches Mining OS to standardise infrastructure management across mining operations
Tether, the issuer of the US dollar-backed stablecoin, has released its Bitcoin mining operating system as open-source software in a move aimed at simplifying and scaling the management of mining infrastructure.
The company unveiled the software, known as Mining OS (MOS), at the Plan ₿ Forum in San Salvador.
Tether said MOS provides a single interface for monitoring and automating Bitcoin mining operations, aggregating data from hardware, energy systems and infrastructure across multiple sites.
“MOS is built to make Bitcoin mining infrastructure more open, modular, and accessible,” said Paolo Ardoino, chief executive of Tether. “Whether it’s a small operator running a handful of machines or a full-scale industrial site, the same operating system can scale without reliance on centralised, third-party software.”
The system monitors hashrate, energy consumption, device health and on-site infrastructure. It uses a peer-to-peer architecture and is designed to run on lightweight hardware or scale to control hundreds of thousands of machines.
Each machine, power unit and infrastructure component is treated as a controllable worker within a unified operational layer, according to the company.
Tether also introduced Mining SDK, the framework that underpins MOS, which includes ready-to-use components, application programming interfaces and a user interface development kit.
