Tether has launched a new stablecoin, USA₮, aimed at U.S. markets and designed to comply with the country's federal regulatory framework, the company said on Monday.

According to Tether, USA₮ is issued by Anchorage Digital Bank, N.A., which it described as the first federally regulated stablecoin issuer in the United States. The token is built to operate under the federal GENIUS Act framework and is available to users in the U.S.

“This launch provides institutions with an additional option: a dollar-backed token made in America,” said Paolo Ardoino, Tether CEO. Tether also announced the appointment of Bo Hines as CEO of Tether USA₮.

Cantor Fitzgerald serves as the stablecoin’s designated reserve custodian and preferred primary dealer, Tether said. The token will initially be available on platforms including Bybit, Crypto.com, Kraken, OKX, and Moonpay.

Tether said USA₮ will complement its global token USD₮, which will continue to operate internationally while moving toward compliance with the GENIUS Act. Hines said the launch marks a step toward a digital dollar “designed to meet federal regulatory expectations.”

The company emphasized that USA₮ is not legal tender and is neither issued nor guaranteed by the U.S. government. It also noted that the token is not covered by FDIC or SIPC insurance protections.

The Recap

  • Tether launched USA₮, a federally regulated dollar-backed stablecoin.
  • Anchorage Digital Bank, N.A. is the issuer of USA₮.
  • Available initially on Bybit, Crypto.com, Kraken, OKX, and Moonpay.
