Tether is partnering with HoneyCoin to expand USD₮ stablecoin payments and integration across Africa.

According to the crypto company, HoneyCoin will launch a cashless point-of-sale platform allowing merchants to accept USD₮ at checkouts and will integrate USD₮ into its ecosystem to enable lower-cost online and in-person payments across Africa and globally.

The company said the rollout will include in-store stablecoin payments in Kenya, QR code payments, real-time conversion from Kenyan Shillings to USD₮, and merchant dashboards, enabling faster settlement, value preservation and lower transaction fees.

“With the rapidly growing digital assets ecosystem in Sub-Saharan Africa, it’s clear that more people are gravitating toward alternative financial solutions to facilitate easy cross-border transactions and access to foreign currency without the complexities of owning or maintaining a foreign bank account. Our mission is to ensure true financial inclusion for everyone," said Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether

"We want individuals anywhere to participate freely in the global digital economy without restrictions, and we are excited to work with innovative companies like HoneyCoin to make this a reality.”

The company said between July 2024 and June 2025 the region received over $205 billion in on-chain value, roughly a 52% increase from the previous year.

“We’re bringing the same simplicity that mobile money offers to stablecoin acceptance, while giving African entrepreneurs access to the currency stability and global connectivity that digital dollars enable,” said David Makuku Nandwa, CEO of HoneyCoin.

The company said Tether has previously supported projects across Africa, including investing in Kotani Pay, signing memoranda of understanding with the Zanzibar eGovernment Authority and on digital asset education, and investing in Shiga Digital.
