Temu, the Chinese-owned online marketplace, has partnered with DEKRA, the German testing and certification body, to provide independent product safety checks for certain categories sold on its platform.

DEKRA will offer testing services for selected electrical and electronic product categories, including automotive electronic devices, household electronics and related products.

The certification body's services will be integrated directly into Temu's Seller Center, the portal through which merchants manage their listings, allowing sellers to access testing and certification support without leaving the platform.

Temu already requires sellers in categories such as toys, high-voltage electrical products and heating devices to submit compliance testing documentation from recognised international certification bodies before those products can be listed.

The partnership comes as the discount retailer faces sustained scrutiny from regulators and consumer groups over the safety and quality of goods sold on its platform.

Temu said it invested approximately $100 million globally in 2025 on compliance, product safety and quality control systems, and that it plans to double that figure in 2026.

The company said it has established relationships with more than 20 internationally recognised testing, inspection and certification organisations, of which DEKRA is one.

The Recap

  • Temu and DEKRA will cooperate on product testing.
  • Temu invested approximately US$100 million in compliance in 2025.
  • Temu plans to double that investment in 2026.
