Take-Two Interactive shares rose after unveiling of new Borderlands and Mafia games

Take-Two Interactive (NASDAQ:TTWO) shares traded higher on Wednesday, up 2.96% to $159.40, with sentiments lifted by news of a bolstered game slate for 2025 – with a new Borderlands title and a new instalment of the Mafia game franchise.
Borderlands 4 and "Mafia: The Old Country were both unveiled at a live Gamescom 2024 event on Tuesday night.
The hotly anticipated titles evidently wowed gamers, as well as boosting the company’s Nasdaq-quoted stock.
“We had included its launch within Q4:27 in our model at 7.5 million units for launch quarter sell-in, on the assumption that the game was still years away,” Wedbush Securities analyst Nick McKay said in a note. “We have made the adjustment to Q2:26 at 5 million units on a late-quarter launch.”
Whatever the critical and commercial merits of the Borderlands movie – which this summer flopped at the box office – the namesake games can evidently still excite.
“Borderlands 4", developed by Gearbox Entertainment and published by 2K Games, is set to be released in 2025. It is the fourth main game in the popular ‘looter-shooter’ franchise.
According to the prelaunch marketing from Gearbox, gamers will explore a new planet and take on the role of a Vault Hunter in search of alien treasures.
Elsewhere, another long-standing franchise is coming back with the anticipated release of "Mafia: The Old Country" which is developed by Hangar 13, and published by 2K Games.
The franchise returns after an eight-year gap since the last installment.
This new game will be set in 1900s Sicily, and is expected to explore the origins of organised crime families through a narrative-driven game – with the developer emphasised a focus on ‘immersive storytelling and authentic realism’. "
Mafia: The Old Country is also scheduled for release in 2025, and, both the new titles will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Take-Two said the releases are part of their fiscal year 2026 plans, meaning that they’ll most likely between April and December 2025.
