Sumbu debuts consumer exoskeleton range at CES, targeting everyday mobility

Sumbu used CES in Las Vegas to unveil the Exo-S3, Exo-S3 Pro and Exo-S3 Ultra, a trio of dual-vector exoskeletons aimed at bringing assisted mobility out of labs and workplaces and into daily life. The company says the range is built to support walking, climbing stairs and cycling, positioning the products as wearable mobility aids rather than specialist medical or industrial equipment.

The launch reflects a broader push to open up a market for consumer-grade exoskeletons that prioritise low weight, adaptability and ease of use.

How the technology works

According to Sumbu, the Exo-S3 series is built around a dual-vector power design that automatically adjusts assistance depending on the user’s activity. The company claims this approach can improve movement efficiency by around 20% by shifting power delivery between different modes, such as uphill walking or cycling.

The devices combine a proprietary planetary gear motor with human-intent recognition powered by artificial intelligence, alongside an automotive-grade energy cell. Sumbu says the exoskeletons are designed to be lightweight and ergonomic, with an IP65 rating intended to support use in real-world conditions rather than controlled environments.

Martin Hsu, founder and chief executive of Sumbu, said the focus was on human-centred design. He said the dual-vector drive allows the exoskeleton to adapt automatically to changing movement demands, reducing the need for manual adjustments.

Pricing and availability

Sumbu has set consumer-style pricing for the range, with the Exo-S3 starting at $1,199, the Pro model at $1,499 and the Ultra version at $1,999. The company said the series will be available to buy from June via its website.

Founded in 2025, Sumbu says it brings together expertise in ergonomics, mechanical engineering, biomedical science, electronics and AI. With its CES debut, the company is signalling an ambition to define a new category of everyday wearable mobility products rather than niche exoskeleton systems.
