Spotify has outlined 25 features added across its music, podcast and audiobook services during 2025, underscoring a year focused on discovery, format expansion and tighter user control.

In a statement, the company highlighted the introduction of lossless audio, music videos in beta, new Audiobooks+ plans, custom transitions between tracks and the launch of in-app Messages. Together, the updates are positioned as part of a wider effort to deepen engagement while giving listeners more flexibility over how they discover and experience content.

Several changes target discovery. Spotify said DJ requests can now be made by voice or text, while an artificial intelligence-powered playlist expansion has rolled out in beta to Premium subscribers in more than 40 additional markets. Other additions include an “In this episode” section linking podcast creators to related Spotify content, new Following feeds for music and podcasts, an Upcoming Releases hub and a refreshed Discover Weekly playlist featuring up to five genre controls.

On formats and access, lossless audio became available to Premium listeners in select markets, while music videos in beta reached Premium users in the US and Canada. Free listeners can now search for and play any song with a single tap, and Managed Accounts expanded controls for family plans.

Product controls and social features introduced during the year include smoother mix transitions, the ability to exclude songs from Taste Profiles, Smart Filters in Your Library, expanded playlist editing tools and custom cover art. Spotify also added TuneMyMusic integration for playlist transfers, improved concert discovery and venue following, a weekly listening snapshot, a larger Wrapped experience for 2025 and the addition of in-app Messages.

The breadth of the updates reflects Spotify’s attempt to balance experimentation with refinement as competition intensifies across audio streaming.
