Sony said in an announcement it plans to deepen its partnership with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. To develop next-generation image sensors for artificial intelligence applications, aiming to broaden its product reach into robotics and automotive sectors.
The move comes as Sony is the global leader in manufacturing image sensors used in smartphones, as well as in automotive and industrial applications, positioning the company to build on existing strengths in sensing technology.

The Japanese group is targeting robotics and automotive markets and forecasts double-digit profit growth as it expands beyond mobile devices, the announcement said. Sony and TSMC will work on sensor designs intended for AI workloads that demand higher performance and new capabilities.
Sony said the collaboration is intended to accelerate development of the next generation of image sensors and support the company’s strategic push into faster-growing sectors, without disclosing further technical or financial details in the announcement.
