Ryanair and Wizz Air show rise in passenger numbers

European 'budget' airlines Ryanair and Wizz Air have both reported growth in passenger numbers for the month of February.
Ryanair announced it serviced 11.1 million passengers, marking a 5% increase compared to February 2023. Load factor (the term used to describe how full flights were on average) remained stable at 92%.
Wizz Air also experienced a significant rise in passengers, with a 15.8% increase to 4.4 million and a load factor of 90%.
Wizz Air, the Hungarian headquartered airline, meanwhile noted an increase in CO2 emissions per passenger/km to 51.4 grams, and said it had reported the lowest emissions figures among its competitors.
Both airlines are navigating challenges such as higher flying costs and the Israel-Gaza conflict.
