Ripple has revealed plans to acquire BC Payments to secure an Australian Financial Services License (AFSL) and broaden its regional payments business.
The acquisition is intended to let Ripple offer Ripple Payments, an end-to-end payments platform that manages the "full lifecycle" of a transaction and integrates traditional banking services with cryptocurrency capabilities.
“Licensing is fundamental to Ripple’s strategy, ensuring we can deliver secure, compliant solutions to customers worldwide,” Fiona Murray, managing director of APAC at Ripple, said in an announcement.
"Australia is a key market for Ripple, and an AFSL strengthens our ability to scale Ripple Payments across the region."

Ripple noted it already holds over 75 regulatory licenses globally, a position the company said helps it work with institutions pursuing digital asset solutions.
Perhaps most significantly, in late 2025, it secured approval from the US regulators to become a national trust bank charter.
