Prime Video has launched a new feature called Video Recaps, now in beta for select Prime Originals in the U.S. This feature aims to help viewers reconnect with their favourite shows before new seasons debut.
Video Recaps utilise AI to summarise a show’s most important plot points, combining synchronised voice narration, dialogue snippets, and music. Gérard Medioni, vice president of technology at Prime Video, stated, “Video Recaps marks a groundbreaking application of generative AI for streaming.”
This feature builds on the 2024 release of X-Ray Recaps, which provides spoiler-free text summaries of key details. Customers can access Video Recaps by selecting a recap button on the detail page of a supported series.
Video Recaps will roll out in beta starting today for select English-language Prime Original series, including Fallout, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Upload, Bosch, and The Rig. The feature will be available on living room devices, with additional support for other devices in the coming months.
