The Premier League has named Microsoft Azure as its official cloud and AI partner in a five-year agreement to modernise digital platforms and fan engagement.
The collaboration, launched July 1, will power new interactive features.
“At the heart of the partnership are the Premier League’s new fan-facing digital platforms, which leverage Microsoft’s cloud and AI technologies,” the League said in its announcement.
The flagship AI feature is the Premier League Companion, a chat-based virtual assistant.
It will let fans query decades of match data, like “How many goals did Cole Palmer score after the 60th minute?” In response, they will get instant answers sourced from 30 seasons of statistics, 300,000 articles and 9,000 videos.
The AI tool will also inform fantasy selections and provide real-time insights.
The partnership marks its first strategic alliance to embed generative AI across its digital ecosystem.
