A formative slice of gaming history is about to become a lot easier to revisit.
Nintendo will release Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version on the Switch on 27 February, timed to Pokémon Day and the franchise's 30th anniversary.
The titles are ports of the 2004 Game Boy Advance remakes of the original Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green, which launched in Japan in February 1996 and went on to become one of the best-selling video game franchises in history.
Players can encounter all 151 original Pokémon alongside Game Boy Advance-era features that will feel comfortingly familiar to veterans: abilities, natures, weather conditions, held items, and a selectable player gender that was quietly radical for its time.
Local co-op is supported without the need for a Game Link Cable, the iconic peripheral that once meant hauling a friend and their Game Boy to the same sofa.
The Switch versions replicate the original regional releases, meaning each language version is sold separately with no in-game option to switch. Nintendo advises customers to check the language of any version before purchase. French and Spanish editions are presented in EU French and EU Spanish.
