Personar, a UK-headquartered sport-tech and AI firm, has announced that its TrackSwift platform is supporting officiating in the Premier League in partnership with Professional Game Match Officials (PGMO), with real-time communications support for match officials that promises to aid live operations and review.
The technnology was born from Formula 1 racing operations, Personar highlighted, noting that its TrackSwift product has now been adapted for football in order to provide greater transparency around refereeing decisions, and how fans understand them.
"We are always looking at ways to make those marginal gains, and Personar’s TrackSwift technology provides the officials and us with greater levels of information in an efficient manner, which we believe will continue to see us modernise with an ever-evolving game," said Howard Webb, PGMO's chief refereeing officer.
The platform analyses match audio communications between on-field officials and VAR officials in real time and provides operational support during critical reviews, the company said in a statement.
TrackSwift also enables the PGMO to carry out comprehensive post-match communication reviews "in record time", identifying areas of best practice and improvement and supporting consistent application of the Laws of the Game across Premier League matches.
“This is about enhancing the beautiful game," said Adrian Jones, Personar CEO and Co-Founder.
He added: "By leveraging advanced AI technology, we’re giving officials more tools to make better-informed decisions while simultaneously helping fans understand the complex judgments in matches. This is about enhancing the beautiful game.”
Howard Webb, Chief Refereeing Officer, added: “Our match officials are highly-skilled individuals who are driven by delivering the best possible performance for the game.”
Personar also develops CoachScribe, an AI coaching analytics platform. The company aims to use audio intelligence to transform decision-making for coaches and officials in high-pressure sporting environments.
