Palo Alto Networks and Google Cloud are deepening their partnership, with the goal of making security a built-in part of how companies develop and run artificial intelligence applications on Google Cloud.

The two companies said the expanded collaboration is focused on embedding security across cloud infrastructure, developer tools and AI workloads, so customers can build, deploy and operate AI systems with protection in place from the outset rather than added later.

Palo Alto Networks said its State of Cloud report highlights how quickly AI is reshaping cloud usage, with customers increasingly relying on cloud platforms to support AI workloads. It said 99% of respondents experienced at least one attack on their AI infrastructure over the past year, underlining the need for more tightly integrated security. The announcement sets out plans for joint engineering, product integrations and go-to-market efforts to secure AI from code through to runtime.

As part of the expanded work, Palo Alto Networks will integrate its Prisma AIRS platform into Google Cloud to protect live AI workloads and data, including services such as Vertex AI and Agent Engine. Security will also be built into developer tools, including the Agent Development Kit.

“Every board is asking how to harness AI’s power without exposing the business to new threats. This partnership answers that question,” said BJ Jenkins, president of Palo Alto Networks. “We’re removing the friction between security and development, providing a unified platform where the most advanced security is simply a native part of building what’s next. Together with Google, we are embedding our AI-powered security deep into the Google Cloud fabric, turning the platform itself into a proactive defence system.”

The companies said they will also deepen existing integrations, including VM-Series firewalls, Prisma SASE and Prisma Access, and use Google Cloud Interconnect to link wide area network infrastructure across multiple clouds while keeping security policies consistent. The expanded collaboration also includes AI posture management, runtime security, agent security, red teaming and model vulnerability scanning.

Palo Alto Networks said it has agreed a new multibillion-dollar deal to move key internal workloads to Google Cloud. It will run its security platforms on Google Cloud’s infrastructure and use Vertex AI and Gemini large language models to power its copilots. The company added that the two groups already have more than 75 joint integrations and have generated about $2bn in sales through the Google Cloud Marketplace.

The Recap

  • Palo Alto Networks and Google Cloud expanded their AI security partnership.
  • Palo Alto Networks’ report found 99% experienced AI infrastructure attacks.
  • Palo Alto Networks will migrate key workloads to Google Cloud.
