ChatGPT, the popular AI chatbot developed by OpenAI, experienced a significant outage on 10 June, leaving thousands of users unable to access services for several hours.

According to OpenAI, the disruption was caused by "elevated error rates" affecting the platform’s core functionality.

Many users encountered messages such as "Too many concurrent requests" or faced blank responses altogether.

The company confirmed that issues persisted for more than seven hours, though service was gradually restored later in the day.

Outage tracking site Downdetector logged close to 2,000 user complaints at the height of the incident. The disruption impacted both free and paid users, including those subscribed to the GPT-4 Turbo tier.

In a statement posted on its status page, OpenAI acknowledged the error rates and said its engineering team was actively investigating.

The incident comes at a time when reliance on AI tools — including ChatGPT — is growing across industries.

Businesses, educators, and individual users now depend on generative AI for everything from content creation to customer service and personal assistance.

Temporary outages like this one underscore the technology’s vulnerability despite its rapid adoption.
