OpenAI launches Academy for news organizations
A new learning hub offers training, playbooks and resources for newsrooms using AI.
OpenAI has launched OpenAI Academy for News Organizations, a learning hub for journalists, editors and publishers using AI.
The company said in a statement the Academy goes live today with hands-on training, playbooks and real-world examples designed to help news teams save time and focus on high-impact journalism.
At launch, the Academy includes on-demand training such as AI Essentials for Journalists, practical use cases for investigative and background research, translation and multilingual reporting, data analysis, and production efficiency.
The company noted the initiative will provide open-source projects and shared resources and offer guidance on responsible uses, including tips for internal policies and governance frameworks; it highlighted existing partnerships with the American Journalism Project, The Lenfest Institute, the Brown Institute for Media Innovation and Hearst, among others, that informed the Academy.
The company said it plans to work with additional news organizations and industry partners in the year ahead to expand the Academy with new courses, case studies, and live programming.
