OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was reportedly the target of a second attack at his San Francisco residence on Sunday morning, according to a police report.

Two suspects were arrested after an attempted shooting and were charged with negligent discharge, the police report says.

On Friday the San Francisco Police Department posted on X that a 20-year-old suspect had been arrested in connection with an alleged Molotov cocktail attack on Altman’s home and had made threats against OpenAI’s headquarters. The device allegedly set fire to an exterior gate before the suspect fled on foot.

The same individual was then reportedly seen near 3rd Street, threatening to burn down a building later that morning. No one was injured in either incident, and "investigations for both are ongoing," according to the reporting.

Altman has become the public face of the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence, with OpenAI’s ChatGPT cited as the fastest-growing app in history, even as the technology faces public backlash over job and environmental concerns.

The recap

  • Second attack targeted Sam Altman's San Francisco home.
  • Two suspects arrested, charged with negligent discharge by police.
  • Investigations into both incidents are ongoing, police say.
