OpenAI and Microsoft said in a joint announcement that their partnership remains in place and that core contractual arrangements are unchanged, including access to technology and cloud hosting rules.
The announcement comes as OpenAI disclosed new funding and new partners and follows a separate collaboration between OpenAI and Amazon; Microsoft says such collaborations were contemplated under existing agreements.
The companies said the intellectual property relationship continues unchanged: Microsoft maintains its exclusive license and access to intellectual property across OpenAI models and products.
Azure remains the exclusive cloud provider for stateless OpenAI APIs, which "can be purchased from Microsoft or directly from OpenAI," the joint announcement says. The companies added that any stateless API calls arising from collaborations with third parties would be hosted on Azure, and that OpenAI’s first-party products, including Frontier, will continue to be hosted on Azure.

The contractual definition of artificial intelligence general intelligence (AGI) and the process for determining if it has been achieved remain the same, the companies said. OpenAI retains flexibility to commit additional compute elsewhere, including through large-scale infrastructure initiatives such as the Stargate project, the announcement adds.
"The partnership remains strong and central," OpenAI and Microsoft said in the joint announcement, and they said the agreement was designed to allow both firms room to pursue new opportunities independently while continuing to collaborate.
