Mistral AI has raised $830 million in debt to finance a new data center near Paris that will run on Nvidia chips, Reuters and CNBC reported. The move follows the company's earlier announcement of its data-center plans and broader infrastructure strategy.
The funding supports Mistral AI’s push to expand artificial intelligence (AI) capacity in Europe, after the company said last month it would invest $1.4 billion in Sweden to build AI infrastructure. The company has set a goal to deploy 200 megawatts of compute capacity across Europe by 2027.
According to Reuters, the site will be in Bruyères-le-Châtel and is expected to be operational in the second quarter of 2026; Mistral did not immediately return a request seeking confirmation. The company first flagged plans for a data center last year, and CEO Arthur Mensch said it would explore different financing options in February 2025.

“Scaling our infrastructure in Europe is critical to empower our customers and to ensure AI innovation and autonomy remain at the heart of Europe," Mensch said in a statement to CNBC. Mistral has raised over €2.8 billion ($3.1 billion) in funding to date, according to Crunchbase, with investors including General Catalyst, ASML, a16z, Lightspeed, and DST Global.
The debt raise adds to Mistral AI’s recent capital commitments and underlines its plan to scale compute capacity for governments, enterprises, and research institutions seeking in-region AI infrastructure, the company said in its communications to media outlets.
