Min-ji So develops AI agent to help deaf webtoon creators
Deaf webtoon creator Min-ji So built an AI assistant to help Deaf artists draft and storyboard webtoons.
Min-ji So, an Instagram webtoon creator who depicts the daily life of a Deaf mother and her hearing child, has used AI to create a tool that simplifies writing and storyboarding for Deaf creators.
According to the company, she joined the Microsoft AI for Impact program in May and developed an AI agent called the "Webtoon Storyboard Assistant" that begins by asking creators questions, generates story outlines and storyboards, and polishes Korean sentences.
So said she turned to webtoons after working as a sign language interpreter and that language limits had constrained her creativity; nearly 5,000 readers follow her stories.
"Seeing how deeply Deaf creators longed to express themselves freely and independently, I felt compelled to help address the challenges they face," Min-ji So said.
Through the programme, she learned to harness Microsoft Copilot and refined how to prompt AI. "It felt as though I had finally gained a new creative assistant," Min-ji So said.

In 2024 alone, approximately 12,000 people joined the foundational sessions, 30 teams enrolled in the intensive program, and five projects were developed into real AI agents, the company said.
In November, she organised and led her first AI workshop in a classroom in Seongdong-gu, Seoul for seven aspiring Deaf and hard-of-hearing creators, and now teaches an AI education program she designed to help peers work independently. "With AI, you can overcome limitations," Min-ji So said.
