Microsoft unveils high-powered AI laptops

Microsoft has announced the launch of new Surface PCs, designed to host OpenAI-powered artificial intelligence 'locally' on the machine.

The new laptops, Surface 7 and the new Surface Pro, are designed to run the Microsoft Copilot+ AI system.

By running AI locally, these high powered laptops are intended to allow AI interaction offline and also run with enhanced privacy control.

They will be driven by high-powered Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus processors, manufactured and supplied by Qualcomm.

Microsoft showcased the new kit at an event on Monday highlighting features including up to 20 hours of battery life, an ultra-thin design and a large HDR touchscreen.

Whilst enabling generative-AI, the new laptops are evidently designed for humans to do meaningful work on too, with the Microsoft devices boasting 'an enhanced typing experience' with the keyboard and touch pad featuring "optimal key travel" and haptic feedback.

Surface Pro's base model is priced at $999, whilst to top-spec version comprising 32gb of RAM and 1 terabyte of storage will go on-sale at $2,100.
