Microsoft outlines Frontier Transformation framework to scale agentic AI

Microsoft has introduced Frontier Transformation, a framework designed to align artificial intelligence with organisational goals and scale agentic workflows across industries, the company said.

Microsoft unveiled the approach at Microsoft Ignite in November and said it is built on an “Intelligence + Trust” foundation and three shared traits: embedding AI in everyday work, enabling ubiquitous innovation and providing observability across the technology stack.

The company said the framework introduces a new intelligence layer comprising Work IQ, Fabric IQ and Foundry IQ, with Agent 365 positioned as the control plane to observe, govern and secure AI agents.

Microsoft highlighted customer deployments that embed AI directly into workflows, including Epic AI, which cut time spent on prior authorisation questions by more than 40% and generated over 16 million patient record summaries in a single month.

The company said Christ Hospital used AI-driven imaging follow-up to lift early cancer detection rates to 69%, compared with a national average of 46%.

Microsoft said Levi Strauss standardised on Windows 11, Copilot+ PCs, Intune, Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft Foundry to unify workflows, while London Stock Exchange Group consolidated 30 legacy systems, 1,200 datasets and more than 33 petabytes of data into Fabric to serve 44,000 customers in over 170 countries.

The company also cited examples of platform adoption, including Adobe supporting third-party models in Firefly and integrating agentic features across its products.

Microsoft said Land O’Lakes built a Copilot called Oz on Foundry to turn an 800-page crop protection guide into workflow guidance, while Mercedes-Benz uses Copilot Studio across more than 50 business areas and reports a 70% increase in developer engagement with GitHub Copilot.

The company said partners are using Agent 365 to govern agentic AI at scale, with ServiceNow integrating the tool for visibility and controls and AstraZeneca using ServiceNow AI Control Tower with Agent 365 to save 90,000 hours of researcher time.

Microsoft said it also introduced Agent Factory at Ignite, combining Work IQ, Fabric IQ and Foundry IQ under a single return-on-investment driven model for building and scaling production AI agents.

The Recap

  • Microsoft introduced Frontier Transformation to align AI with ambition.
  • LSEG consolidated 30 systems and more than 33 petabytes.
  • Agent Factory combines Work IQ, Fabric IQ and Foundry IQ.
