Microsoft is introducing Microsoft 365 E7: The Frontier Suite and Agent 365, with both products moving to general availability on May 1 and priced at $99 and $15 per user respectively, the company said in an announcement by Judson Althoff.

The announcement frames the push as part of "Frontier Transformation," an approach that pairs "Intelligence + Trust" to embed artificial intelligence into daily work while maintaining governance and security. Althoff wrote that "zero-shot artifact creation is nothing more than a parlor trick," arguing that value comes from contextualized work intelligence rather than model output alone.

Key product changes include Wave 3 of Microsoft 365 Copilot, which adds agentic experiences and an enhanced chat across Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, and expanded model diversity with Claude and next-generation OpenAI models available today. Copilot now supports Copilot Cowork in research preview, built with Anthropic to enable long-running, multi-step workflows.

Agent 365 is billed as a control plane for AI agents, giving IT and security teams a place to observe, govern, manage and secure agents. The company said tens of millions of agents have appeared in the Agent 365 Registry during preview. Microsoft reports visibility into more than 500,000 agents internally, agents producing more than 65,000 responses daily over the past 28 days, paid Copilot seats growing more than 160% year over year and daily active usage rising 10 times.

Microsoft 365 E7 combines Microsoft 365 E5, Microsoft 365 Copilot and Agent 365, and includes Microsoft Entra Suite, Defender, Intune and Purview capabilities; the company said E7 is priced below buying those components separately.

The recap

  • Microsoft launches Microsoft 365 E7, Copilot and Agent 365 bundle.
  • Agent 365 priced at $15 per user with governance and control.
  • General availability begins May 1 for Agent 365 and E7.
