Microsoft is rolling out Copilot Cowork, an artificial intelligence tool for long-running, multi-step work inside Microsoft 365, and is making the capability available via its Frontier program. Copilot Cowork is designed to create plans, act across files and apps, and carry work forward with visible progress.

The release builds on Microsoft’s multi‑model approach for Copilot, which the company says combines industry models with its Work IQ and Enterprise Data Protection to put AI directly into everyday apps and workflows. Copilot Cowork includes built-in skills from Claude and Microsoft for tasks such as calendar management and daily briefings.

Copilot Cowork can delegate work, reason across an organization’s tools and files, and run repeatable workflows like monthly budget reviews, the company said in a blog post. Capital Group had early access; Barton Warner, SVP of Enterprise Technology at Capital Group, said, "We have been using Copilot since its launch in 2024, and the new capabilities in Cowork will help us automate and scale the Copilot ecosystem."

Microsoft also updated Researcher with a multi‑model Critique feature that separates generation from evaluation by using one model to draft and another to review, drawing from Frontier labs including Anthropic and OpenAI. The company said Researcher now scores 13.8% higher on the Deep Research Accuracy, Completeness, and Objectivity (DRACO) benchmark. Researcher’s new model Council lets users compare outputs from different models side‑by‑side.

These features form part of Wave 3 of Microsoft 365 Copilot. Organizations can join Frontier for early access and can try Microsoft 365 Copilot via Microsoft365.com/copilot or the Microsoft 365 app, the company said in the blog post.

The recap

  • Copilot Cowork is available via Microsoft's Frontier early-access program.
  • Researcher improves 13.8% on the DRACO deep research benchmark.
  • Organizations can join Frontier to get early access.
