Meta is building an AI-optimised data centre in Tulsa, Oklahoma, its first facility in the state, 28th in the US and 32nd in its global fleet, the company said in an announcement.
The project represents a local investment of more than $1 billion, with about 1,000 construction workers expected at peak build and roughly 100 ongoing operational roles once the site opens.
Meta said it will fund over $25 million in local road and water upgrades and will support community programmes, including a grant to Eastside Rise and a training partnership with Tulsa Tech and Tulsa Community College designed to produce more than 200 graduates annually in technical trades and AI-related skills.
On water use, Meta plans a water-efficient closed-loop, liquid-cooled system that recirculates water and will use zero water for much of the year. "We aim to be water positive in 2030, meaning we will restore more water to local watersheds than we consume," the company said in an announcement.
The company also outlined a ten-year Phytech irrigation project across about 1,500 acres, targeting savings of over 50 million gallons of water per year.

Meta will pay full energy and water costs for the data centre and says the facility’s electricity will be matched with 100% clean energy.
The company added it is investing hundreds of millions of dollars in grid infrastructure and is contributing annually to PSO’s Light a Life programme to aid customers with energy bills.
