Meta and Nigeria Data Protection Commission launch nationwide privacy campaign
Six-week initiative aims to educate millions on digital privacy and safety across Facebook and Instagram
Meta and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) have launched a nationwide privacy education campaign to raise awareness about online safety and data protection across Nigeria.
The six-week initiative will run on Facebook and Instagram in English and local languages, featuring creative content to help users understand and manage their privacy settings.
Meta said the campaign will guide Nigerians on how to use features such as Privacy Checkup, end-to-end encryption, Two-Factor Authentication and Login Alerts to better protect their personal information and secure their accounts.
“Protecting people’s privacy is a priority for us,” said Sade Dada, head of public policy for Anglophone West Africa at Meta. “We’re proud to be working with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission to raise awareness and help Nigerians stay in control of their online privacy choices.”
Since 2019, Meta said it has invested over $8 billion in privacy programmes and tools that improve transparency and give users greater control over their data.
Dr Vincent Olatunji, national commissioner and chief executive of the NDPC, said the collaboration was a milestone in safeguarding citizens’ rights online.
