Lucid, Nuro and Uber unveil global robotaxi

Lucid Group, Nuro and Uber have unveiled new robotaxi vehicles and a new Uber-designed in-cabin rider experience, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), in Las Vegas.

The companies said in an announcement that autonomous on-road testing had begun in December, and is being led by Nuro, using robotaxi engineering prototypes supervised by autonomous vehicle operators in the Bay Area, ahead of an expected launch later in 2026.

The robotaxi combines a next-generation sensor array of high-resolution cameras, solid-state lidar and radar integrated into the Lucid Gravity body and a purpose-built roof-mounted halo.

Meanwhile, 'Halo'-mounted integrated LEDs are designed to help riders identify the correct vehicle, display rider initials, and show status updates from pickup through dropoff.

The robotaxi interior includes interactive screens for heated-seat and climate controls, music, support contact and a pull-over request, and offers seating configurations for up to six passengers and generous luggage space.

The technology platform uses NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor for real-time AI processing.

“The debut of our production intent robotaxi with Lucid and Uber is a significant milestone on our path to delivering autonomy at scale,” said Dave Ferguson, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Nuro.

Pending final validation, production is expected to start at Lucid’s Arizona factory later this year.
