London tech firm Latent raises $8mln to transform game development

Latent Technology, a London-based AI game technology company, has raised $8 million in a seed funding round to support its revolutionary development tools.
Proceeds from the funding round will be invested in its AI-powered generative physics animation system.
“AI gives us the opportunity to transform not only how developers create games, but also how players experience them," Latent co-founder and CEO Jorge del Val said in a statement.
"While many companies are using AI to optimise existing workflows, we’re focused on enabling something fundamentally new – emergent, interactive animation that reacts in real time.
"Our aim is to evolve the animation paradigm towards emergent physical behaviors, opening up new, creative possibilities for developers and dynamic experiences for players.”
London-based Latent is currently running a closed beta with select studios, with the platform designed to enable game developers to create emergent, real-time animation behaviours using AI and physics.
Latent said it plans to release two new tech demos to showcase the platform this year.
The $8 million funding round was co-led by AlbionVC and Spark Capital, and was also backed by Root Ventures and Alumni Ventures.
