Klarna, the Swedish payments and shopping platform, said its app now reaches more than 55 million monthly active users globally, with 9 million people using it daily and daily engagement up 53% year over year.

The company attributed the growth to increased use of its banking, spending and shopping services as customers adopt the app for routine money management.

Klarna has added a range of new products in recent months, including a debit card, membership tiers, cashback rewards, mobile phone plans and peer-to-peer payments in Europe.

Sebastian Siemiatkowski, chief executive and co-founder of Klarna, said daily use of the app reflected the company's ambition to become a global digital bank for the next generation, with consumers using it to track spending and manage money in everyday life.

The company cited broader market data to contextualise the growth, noting that according to McKinsey around nine in ten consumers in both the United States and Europe now use digital payments, and that one in five digital wallet users frequently leave home without a physical wallet.

Klarna, which listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2024, has been expanding its product range beyond its original buy-now-pay-later offering as it seeks to position itself as a full-service consumer finance platform.

The company did not provide a breakdown of engagement figures by region or product category.

The recap

  • App reaches more than 55 million monthly active users globally.
  • 9 million users engage with the app daily.
  • Company recently launched debit card and peer-to-peer payments.
