Japan's Metaplanet jumps Tesla in Bitcoin treasury rankings
Metaplanet, a Japanese hotel company, has jumped up a spot in the top ten list of companies holding a Bitcoin treasury.
The company is said to have bought 1,234 bitcoin, increasing its holding to 12,345 Bitcoins (and, yes, these whimsical numbers are real). That's worth $132.7 million (19.27 billion Yen).
It sees Metaplanet leapfrog Tesla, which has 11,509 Bitcoin, moving the Japanese firm to the seventh spot in the rankings.
Metaplanet, however, doesn't intend to stop there. Through the firm's '555 million' plan, it wants to amass a holding of 210,000 Bitcoin by the end of 2027.
The latest purchases are backed by an equity fund raise, which banked $517 million (¥74.9 billion).

Bitcoin Hotel
Metaplanet's main hotel operation is the 'Bitcoin Hotel' in Gotanda, Tokyo.
The company, formerly Red Planet Japan, was a budget hotel chain which was reinvented post-COVID, with the group's last remaining hotel asset being converted into a living showcase for Bitcoin integration.
Guests staying here pay for everything in Bitcoin, the decor is crypto-inspired, and it is host to cryptocurrency education and networking events.
Metaplanet also has a portfolio of investments, including a Bitcoin magazine.
