IBM launches Enterprise Advantage to help companies scale internal AI platforms
New consulting service is designed to let organisations build and govern customised artificial intelligence platforms using existing technology, as IBM seeks to turn early experimentation into operational deployment.
IBM has launched Enterprise Advantage, an asset-based consulting service aimed at helping clients build, govern and operate internal artificial intelligence platforms at scale.
The company said the service is designed to address a common obstacle in corporate AI adoption. Many organisations have invested heavily in models, cloud infrastructure and pilot projects, but struggle to move beyond isolated use cases. Enterprise Advantage is intended to help clients redesign workflows, connect AI systems to existing technology and scale so-called agentic applications, without forcing changes to their cloud providers, underlying models or core infrastructure.
In practical terms, this means companies can build AI systems on top of what they already use, rather than starting again. Agentic applications refer to AI systems that can take actions, such as retrieving information or triggering processes, rather than simply responding to prompts. IBM said the service allows these systems to be deployed in a controlled and governed way, which is often a requirement in regulated or security-sensitive environments.
Enterprise Advantage combines IBM’s consulting teams with technology drawn from IBM Consulting Advantage, the firm’s internal delivery platform that uses AI to support consultants in designing and executing projects. According to the company, IBM Consulting Advantage has been used in more than 150 client engagements and has increased consultant productivity by up to 50%.
IBM said early users of the new service include Pearson, which is using Enterprise Advantage to build a customised AI-powered platform that combines human expertise with agentic assistants. The aim is to pair subject matter specialists with digital tools that can automate or support parts of the workflow, rather than replacing people outright.
A manufacturing client, which IBM did not name, used the service to identify high-value AI use cases, test prototypes and align senior leaders around what IBM described as a platform-first strategy. The project also involved deploying AI assistants in a secure and governed environment, highlighting the focus on oversight and control rather than rapid experimentation alone.
“Many organisations are investing in AI, but achieving real value at scale remains a major challenge,” said Mohamad Ali, senior vice president and head of IBM Consulting. “We have solved many of these challenges inside IBM by using AI to transform our own operations and deliver measurable results, giving us a proven playbook to help clients succeed.”

He added that Enterprise Advantage brings this internal framework to clients by combining human expertise with digital workers and ready-to-use AI assets, allowing organisations to scale AI initiatives with greater confidence.
