HBO Max has set out its January programming slate, unveiling a mix of returning dramas, original series, documentaries and feature films, with several high-profile titles releasing episodes weekly.

According to HBO Max, the Max Original drama The Pitt returns on 8 January at 9.00 pm ET, followed by the new season of HBO Original Industry, which premieres on 11 January at 9.00 pm ET. Both series will debut new episodes on a weekly basis.

Later in the month, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set to launch on 18 January at 10.00 pm ET, while Real Time with Bill Maher returns for its 24th season on 23 January at 10.00 pm ET.

The company also highlighted a major documentary release from HBO Documentary Films. Mel Brooks: The six-episode Man! will be released in two parts on 22 January and 23 January, with both episodes made available to stream from 22 January.

HBO Max said it will continue its collaboration with independent studio A24 by adding The Smashing Machine to the platform on 23 January, followed by If I Had Legs I’d Kick You on 30 January. The additions build on the service’s broader strategy of combining prestige television with a curated film catalogue.

In addition to the headline releases, the company said subscribers can expect a wide range of films, series and live sports content to be added throughout the month.

The January schedule underlines HBO Max’s focus on staggered weekly releases for flagship titles, alongside event-style film premieres, as competition intensifies among global streaming platforms for viewer attention early in the year.

The Recap
