Harmattan AI has raised $200 million in a Series B funding round led by Dassault Aviation, alongside the launch of a strategic partnership aimed at advancing controlled autonomy and artificial intelligence in combat air systems.

The investment underpins a broader industrial and technological collaboration between the two companies, focused on integrating AI-driven autonomy into next-generation military aviation platforms.

Both parties said the partnership reflects a shared emphasis on technological sovereignty, operational control and scalable deployment across allied forces.

Harmattan AI said it has already been awarded multiple Programs of Record by the French and UK Ministries of Defence for its autonomous systems portfolio. Those programmes span intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, drone interception and electronic warfare. The company is now scaling its operations internationally as demand for AI-enabled defence capabilities increases.

Proceeds from the funding round will be used to expand deployment of Harmattan AI’s systems into new operational theatres, extend its product offering into additional domains and scale industrial manufacturing capacity. The company said this includes accelerating the rollout of AI-enabled missions and strengthening its ability to deliver at volume for government customers.

Eric Trappier, Chairman and Chief Executive of Dassault Aviation, said the investment aligns with the group’s long-standing focus on technological excellence and national sovereignty. He said the partnership with Harmattan AI would support the integration of high-value autonomy into future combat air systems and reinforce Dassault’s ability to deliver advanced capabilities required by armed forces over the coming decades.

Mouad M’Ghari, Chief Executive and Co-Founder of Harmattan AI, said the partnership marked a decisive step in the emergence of a new generation of autonomous defence systems. He said Dassault Aviation’s backing would accelerate Harmattan AI’s mission to deliver scalable, sovereign AI capabilities to allied militaries, combining frontier artificial intelligence with established expertise in military aviation.

As part of the partnership, Dassault Aviation will provide expertise in system architecture for complex military platforms, integration of mission systems in high-intensity operational environments and support for international business development through its global defence network.

The collaboration will also support the development of embedded AI capabilities within Dassault Aviation’s future air combat systems. These include the Rafale F5 standard and unmanned combat air system programmes, with a particular focus on the control and coordination of unmanned aerial systems operating alongside crewed aircraft.

The deal highlights the growing convergence between advanced artificial intelligence and defence aerospace, as European manufacturers and technology firms seek to build sovereign alternatives to US-led defence AI ecosystems while responding to rapidly evolving battlefield requirements.

The Recap

  • Dassault led Harmattan AI’s $200 million Series B round.
  • Proceeds will scale ISR, drone interception and electronic warfare.
  • Companies will embed sovereign AI into future combat systems.
