Google Photos adds AI-powered Ask button for image search and editing
The feature uses Gemini models to let users ask questions about their photo libraries
Google Photos has introduced an Ask button on Android and iOS that lets users in the United States start conversations about their images, find related moments and request edits.
The feature is powered by Google's Gemini AI models and appears when viewing a photo, offering short explanations of an image, surfacing related pictures and proposing editing suggestions.
Google said users can search their galleries using natural language, with examples including locating hiking photos, narrowing results by area, finding images that "feel like" a particular season and identifying flower types such as Balsamroot and Lupine.
Results can be refined through follow-up questions, allowing users to learn more about composition and subjects within their photos.
The Ask button includes an auto-populated "Help me edit" prompt alongside a text box for custom editing instructions.
Google said the feature can also write item descriptions, transcribe text captured in images and convert transcriptions into grocery lists or step-by-step instructions.
