Google has announced Nano Banana 2, an artificial intelligence image generation model that the company says brings together the advanced capabilities of Nano Banana Pro with the processing speed of Gemini Flash, its faster-tier AI architecture.
The model is designed to accelerate image creation and editing across Google's apps and services, and will replace Nano Banana Pro across the Fast, Thinking and Pro tiers of the Gemini app.
Technical improvements over prior Nano Banana releases include consistent subject rendering for up to five characters and accurate object fidelity for up to 14 objects within a single workflow, alongside support for output resolutions ranging from 512 pixels to 4K.
Nano Banana 2 also integrates Gemini's real-world knowledge and web search grounding, which Google said improves the rendering of subjects, infographics and data visualisations.
The model is rolling out across Google Search, including AI Mode and Lens, as well as Google Ads, AI Studio in preview and the Gemini API, and is the default image generator in Flow, Google's AI filmmaking tool.
It is also available in Vertex AI, Google's cloud machine learning platform, in preview.

Google said SynthID, its tool for embedding invisible provenance markers in AI-generated content, has been applied more than 20 million times, and that support for C2PA Content Credentials verification, an industry standard for tracking content origin, will be added to the Gemini app shortly.
The company recommends Nano Banana Pro for tasks requiring maximum factual accuracy, and Nano Banana 2 for rapid generation, precise instruction following and workflows that benefit from integrated image-search grounding
The recap
- Nano Banana 2 pairs Nano Banana Pro features with Gemini Flash speed.
- Model preserves up to five characters and 14 objects fidelity.
- SynthID used over 20 million times; C2PA verification coming soon.
