Google is rolling out Canvas in AI Mode to everyone in the U.S., in English, providing a dedicated space to organise plans and projects over time inside Search. Canvas in AI Mode is presented as a side panel that integrates with search results and the interface’s AI tools.
The feature adds new capacity for creative writing and coding tasks, allowing users to draft documents or create custom interactive tools without leaving Search. Early testing highlighted practical uses such as study planners and project dashboards; one tester-contributed idea described "a dashboard to visualize and track information on academic scholarships, including all the different requirements, deadlines and dollar amounts."

To build a tool, users select the new Canvas option from the tool menu (+) in AI Mode and describe what they want to create. "You’ll get a working prototype in the Canvas side panel that pulls together the freshest information from the web and Google’s Knowledge Graph," the company said in an announcement. From that prototype users can test functionality, toggle to view the underlying code and refine the tool with conversational follow-ups.
Google positions Canvas in AI Mode for a range of tasks, including studying for exams, planning a trip and assembling project dashboards. The company says the workflow is iterative: describe the requirement, review a generated prototype, then adjust via conversation until the tool meets the user’s needs.
