Google Labs is rolling out a redesigned interface for Flow, its generative media workspace, bringing image generation to the forefront and unifying image and video creation in a single environment.

The update folds capabilities from Whisk and ImageFX, two of Google's standalone generative image tools, into Flow, and integrates Nano Banana, an AI-powered image editing feature, into the core experience.

Google Labs said users have created more than 1.5 billion images and videos in Flow since the platform launched last year.

Users will be able to generate images for free within Flow and use them as source material for video outputs produced with Veo, Google's video generation model.

From March, users can opt in to transfer all existing Whisk and ImageFX projects and assets directly into their Flow library.

New interface features include the ability to combine multiple images and style references, locate assets using an "@" shortcut, and convert high-resolution stills into animated footage.

Editing additions include a lasso selection tool, freehand drawing on images and natural-language instructions for targeted changes, such as removing objects or adding elements to a scene.

Video editing capabilities include clip extension, object addition and removal, and camera motion controls such as pans and zooms.

Google Labs invited users to try the updated platform at flow.google.

The recap

  • Flow redesign surfaces image generation and unified media workspace.
  • Since launch, users have created over 1.5 billion images and videos.
  • Whisk and ImageFX projects can transfer into Flow starting in March.
