Google for Education is launching what it describes as the largest initiative of its kind, offering free artificial intelligence training to all 6 million K-12 and higher education faculty across the United States.
The programme, announced on 23 February 2026, is a partnership with ISTE+ASCD, a nonprofit professional body for educators, and aims to reach teachers and faculty who collectively instruct more than 74 million students.
Training will cover Google's AI tools, including its Gemini assistant and NotebookLM, a research and study application, and will be delivered in short, self-contained modules designed to fit around existing teaching responsibilities.
Educators who complete modules will receive micro-credentials, and course materials will be aligned to ISTE+ASCD's AI Ready Graduate framework and its latest standards for faculty.
Topics will include generating personalised lessons from same-day assessments, creating individualised study coaches for large lectures, adapting curricula for diverse learning needs, and using NotebookLM to produce customised study guides and multimedia resources.
The initiative responds to a concern that while AI has the potential to transform learning environments, many educators find it time-consuming to master alongside other duties.
