Google is expanding Find Hub to let airlines view live item locations and help recover lost luggage using the Find Hub network and compatible devices.
The feature complements a new location sharing option in Google Messages and the arrival of Find Hub on Pixel Watches, widening ways to connect people, devices and belongings on the go.
Users can copy a secure link and paste it into an airline’s mobile app or website so staff can see an item’s updating location, and they can stop sharing at any time from the app. Google lists more than 10 major global airlines accepting Find Hub locations for baggage recovery, including Ajet, Air India, China Airlines, the Lufthansa Group (Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Swiss International Airlines), Saudia Airlines, Scandinavian Airlines and Turkish Airlines, with Qantas coming in the near future.
Google says it integrated Find Hub with SITA and Reunitus to work with WorldTracer and NetTracer, the industry baggage-tracing platforms used by hundreds of airlines at thousands of airports. The company is also working with Samsonite to embed Find Hub technology into new suitcase designs. Angela Hsiao wrote the company designed the Find Hub network with your "privacy as a priority," and that "links automatically expire after seven days" to protect location data.
The company said in a blog post it will continue expanding partnerships and enhancing Find Hub so users can locate items from keys at home to suitcases across the globe.
