GitLab said the Duo Agent Platform is now generally available on GitLab.com, GitLab Self-Managed and GitLab Dedicated as part of the GitLab 18.8 release cycle.

The company said the platform is designed to address what it described as the AI paradox by enabling intelligent orchestration and agentic automation across software development, while operating within an organisation’s full context, standards and governance controls.

The release includes Agentic Chat, which uses multi-step reasoning and project data drawn from issues, merge requests, pipelines and security findings to carry out context-aware actions in the web interface and integrated development environments. GitLab said a additionally provides prebuilt Foundational Agents such as Planner Agent and Security Analyst Agent for planning and vulnerability review.

External agents supported by the platform include Claude Code from Anthropic and Codex CLI from OpenAI.

Manav Khurana, chief product and marketing officer at GitLab, said the general availability of the Duo Agent Platform represents a fundamental shift in how artificial intelligence delivers value in software development.

GitLab also published a set of prebuilt agentic workflows, including Developer Issue to Merge Request, Convert to GitLab CI CD, Fix CI CD pipeline, Code Review and an integrated software development flow for IDEs.

The company said the platform supports model selection and self-hosted models for Self-Managed deployments, alongside group-based access controls and LDAP and SAML integration to manage and govern usage.

GitLab said it is introducing GitLab Credits for new usage-based products and directed users to its blog for further details. It also invited registrations for its GitLab Transcend virtual event taking place on 10 February.

The Recap

  • GitLab Duo Agent Platform is now generally available across platforms.
