Fallout 4 next-gen update's bugs and glitches see disappointing reviews

Fallout 4 has been refreshed, updated and added to next-gen consoles following the roaring success of Amazon's TV adaptation of the video game franchise - but not all gamers are happy.

The Bethesda video game studio, bought by Microsoft in 2021, released the next-gen update on April 25, making it available on the PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S consoles for the first time.

It also boosted the PC version of the game, with all new versions intended to enhance the game's graphics and performance - and seize a commercial opportunity as Amazon's TV show sits at the top of the streaming charts.

However, it has been criticised for numerous issues.

PC gamers have reported that the update broke several mods (popular third-party game customizations).

On PlayStation 5, meanwhile, users have encountered problems upgrading their existing game versions, including some confusion around its availability under the Playstation+ subscription service.

Also Xbox users have reported issues with the new 'Quality Mode' which they claim did not function as expected.

Among ardent gamers it appears that despite the anticipated improvements, the update has not lived up to expectations. It has instead brought to light the persistent technical challenges associated with renovating a game that first went on sale in 2015.

Bethesda are expected to roll-out fixes to address the reported issues, though specific details are not presently available.

For more casual gamers and new fans of the franchise discovering the game via Amazon's Prime Video, the release of the new version of Fallout remains an exciting addition to the game library.

Media outlets, largely within the gaming niche, predominantly focus on the negative aspects of the update, emphasizing the disappointment within the gaming community.

The media reports potentially risk over representing problems encountered by some small segments of the overall audience.
