ECD Automotive Design reveals bespoke Defender soft-top build
US restoration specialist ECD Automotive Design has unveiled Project Wrangler, a custom Defender 110 Soft Top designed to prioritise mechanical engagement and open-air driving.
ECD Automotive Design said it has introduced Project Wrangler, a Defender 110 Soft Top built on its D110 platform and aimed at drivers seeking a traditional, driver-focused experience.
The company said the design places the driving experience at the forefront, combining modern engineering with handcrafted detailing.
Project Wrangler is powered by a 6.2 litre LT1 V8 engine paired with a close-ratio Magnum T56 six-speed manual transmission. Braking and handling are delivered through Brembo brakes and an ECD Air Ride suspension system, while a Borla stainless Sport Dual Plus exhaust is fitted.
Exterior finishes include Arles Blue paint with Narvik Black accents, 18-inch Kahn 1983 wheels and BFGoodrich all-terrain tyres. Additional features include a Safety Devices Explorer roof rack with integrated rear ladder, a wing-away spare wheel carrier and a North American Specification-style rear bumper.

Inside, the vehicle features Recaro Orthoped seats upholstered in Spinneybeck leather with vertical diamond stitching, a bespoke ECD centre console with rear climate control, Natural Sapele wood flooring and German square-weave carpeting. Brazilian rosewood accents are used throughout, including a custom gear lever knob.
ECD said the vehicle is fitted with a new front and rear air conditioning system, a fully rewired electrical architecture, wireless Apple CarPlay, a JL Audio sound system, a reversing camera with blind-spot monitoring and a digital rear-view mirror.
